BAD CREDIT AND EMPLOYMENT
68The Trend
I have notice a trend with seeking employment and credit checking just to land the job,
And what is happening is just plain wrong and here is why.
For that past few years now I have notice that more and more companies are requiring people to forgo a credit check before they are even considered for the job. However they do have to ask for consent before they can pull your record. But what happens behind closed doors is left to your own imagination, but what they don’t tell you is it has a direct affect on rather they hire you or not.
Here is what the FTC has to say about credit employment
Why do we need a credit report to get a job?
MIS-USED AND ABUSED
What are they doing with the credit report anyway? Well this is what I have to believe is what is really going on.
- They first look at the score and decide what kind of person you are based on your ranking, but the problem with that is, that just looking at the score and suddenly deciding rather you are a trust worthy person or someone that buys things and never pays for them (in other words calling you a crook) is plain out discrimination. Granted they will never confront you with their own thoughts but you can almost bet they are very much thinking it.
- Not only are they prying into your privat life but now they know how bad you might need the job. Let’s say you have a home loan, car loan, doctor bills, and many other bills that show up on the credit report. Where does this put them based on the leverage they have on you now. Well let’s look a bit closer shall we, now knowing what your needs are they now can decide how much or less in this case they will pay you. If you are in default with anything all this does is prove to them how desperate you are for a job therefore they can rattle any wage just above the minimum and you will take it or leave it. In some cases if you have perfect credit they may just pop off and say your over qualified for the job, in other words they are looking for cheap labor that can get the same job done.
In another instance some companies will only hire people who have good credit. This might as well be a blatant statement that they are being discriminating on people with bad credit. So when I see that EOE (Equal Opportunity Employer) I almost have to laugh at it, even thou they may not be discriminating agents race, color, religion, and disability they are in fact still discriminating based on ether wealth and/or credit. All this without even knowing why or how that person even got into that situation. In other words they are basing it all on assumptions rather then fact.
THE CATCH 22 WITH CREDIT TODAY
Having perfect credit is a necessity in the world we live in today, but where is this taking our country and where is it going to wind up when the smoke clears?
The bottom line is if you have bad credit companies tend to shun you away thinking within their own mind that you are either a crook or a bad person all around. All this without knowing your personal circumstances.
With the economy on an ongoing downward spiral, and people losing there jobs that they might have had for like 10 years has a drastic affect on their lives. They are now suddenly without work for the first time in many years and they still have bills, mortgages, car payments, and what not, and now that their security has been stripped away from them and they are forced to seek work or unemployment. With unemployment at an all time high you might go 2 to 6 months without drawing a single paycheck, and by that time you are in default on all your bills and just scrapping by just to feed your family.
Now does this sound like a person who just buys stuff on the fly or just don’t care? of course not as a matter of fact this sounds like a lot of Americans today who are having this very problem, but do companies care about this? NO! and why not? well because as far as their concerned from just looking at the report you have always been this way.
So why is this a catch 22, well follow with me (if I haven’t put you into a comma already) if you can. The reason is Corporate America has it structured this way to help keep the low income people from moving beyond financial freedom. They make money off you more so then the wealthy, why you might ask; well most wealthy people do not shop as much mainly because unless they really need it they have mostly everything they want. Whereas low class and middle class are always striving to acquire something they normally cannot afford. So having this set up like this makes it harder for low to mid income people to land better paying jobs that could stabilize their life. This also secures theses jobs for people that are in good standing.
Where is this going would be a good question, but there is no real definite answer to this however if you keep looking at the track record of this subject I really only see one possible outcome.
The lower and mid class people at some point will finally say enough is enough and will start fighting back, How they fight back remains to be seen, but from what I am seeing from today’s stand point I do believe we are in for another civil war on our hands but this will not be a war of race no! No! This will be a war of the people ageist Corporate America and rightly so because Corporate America has been using dirty tactics of lately is such things as price hiking, gouging, inflation, and well I could go on and on with this but I think you get the point. There are signs that Corporate America know there is something coming with many of the fortune 500 companies building underground fortresses such as the one Wal-Mart has done. Why you suppose they would even make one unless they know what they’re doing is wrong and getting prepared for something.
With all that said I will leave you with this thought. With the economy pitfalls ever-growing have a plan in place and a strong nest egg put away to at least support you for 6 months (yes it sound like a lot of money but that cushion could be the very thing that keeps you from falling on your face).
Please leave a comment on this subject I would like to know your thoughts on where or what we as a people could do to change our future as a country.
