Planet Santorin The Letter

If this letter has made its way into your hands, this means the planet has not yet been destroyed. But I can't say the same for the rest us. So please read on so that you might get an understanding of what has happen here, and that you may pass this story on to other cultures of people and races rather alien or not.

Many Years ago This planet Santorin was a very lush and beautiful place. There was plenty of water, many wild animals, and the flowers and other plants would glow when the night fell upon us. As of this writing that would have been 20 years ago.

That is when it all started; one of the two suns that moved across our sky went super nova. The sky lite up so brightly that it looked like the heavens itself had opened up. Then the alarms sounded and the scientist where all telling people to run for cover, for us to find some shelter that has 4 walls so that the radiation would be blocked.

I have seen what radiation can do to you, heck all of us had back when they use to do public death sentencing. Where they would use radiation so strong that the person would be burnt to ash in a matter of minutes. The chief of my tribe knew that just a plain old shelter would not do. Luckily we had a very deep cave nearby that we could use. Nobody has ever gotten to the bottom of this cave and the ones that had tried have never returned. This cave was lined with lead and my chief knew it.

There is almost 200 of us in this tribe and the cave was plenty big. We was able to store enough food for about one and a half years after that we would be forced to fish in the underground stream that runs threw it, and that's if the fish aren't contaminated.

Destruction

Finally, the wait is over. The wake from the solar blast almost took a week to get here but when it did the whole cave shook. rocks from the cave walls and overhead were falling all over the place, crushing people and killing those who could not move fast enough. This went on for hours, many of us thought this was the end but when we was about to give up on hope it stopped. We lost 32 people from our tribe that day, we felt broken, defeated, and used up.

We were down there for a very long time; food was all but gone and fights where till the death for what was left. Finally after two years underground we had no choice but to attempt to go back above ground to seek for food. And we are glad we did because when we emerged from our shelters there was life everywhere it looked as nothing had happened. There was even animals, how they survived the blast was a true miracle.

After checking the local plants and soil for radiation to be sure that it was safe to venture out; we all ran to the nearest stream and took baths. The hunting parties started forming up to gather food for the tribe, once again they felt useful to the tribe and was ready to hone in their skills.

The scientist and scholars where coming together from all over the world to find out why they did not see this coming before it happened. Even thought we had technology our tribe always valued our traditional ways above all.

We lived well for the next few years, that was until our scientist discovered a problem. For the past five years everyone notice that every summer it was getting hotter. After the second year the chief from different tribes assigned different scientist to the task to find out why it was getting so hot, because our ponds and river beds where drying up faster to the point that we did not have water for our crops and would be forced to rashion the water to drink.By the fifth year we got the news.

The Time Has Come

The scientist gave us the worst news that anyone could have had burden their ears. The reason that the planet was getting hotter was we where getting closer to the remaining sun. How could this be? I really didn't understand this tech talk so I spoke out and asked to explain it to us so that we could understand.

What we have discovered is that because our distant sun had gone super nova, that set in motion a chain of events that cannot be undone. It was that sun that kept our planet in check, keeping our planet at the same constant distance which in turn made it where this planet was not to hot, or two cold. However sense the super nova our planet is now being pulled closer to the still remaining sun, and it is getting hotter.

Now we come to my present day of this writing, and things have gotten out of control. Our planets weather is going crazy and with earth quakes and volcanoes, I can only see the end is near. Most of the plant life is either gone or dying and the water has nearly all evaporated. The scientist think they can have a colony ship built before it is to late but I am not going to count on it.

This is why that if you are reading this letter now, then it is most likely that I or should I say we have succumbed to the heat of this planet. My name is Shanatowa, and my people are called the nabbiz, a proud warrior race with many cultures and beliefs. Through this letter let us not be forgotten and pass what you have learned so my people will live on in spirit by this we will not have died in vain.

Sincerely: Shanatowa
